Allen RS Tera Eastern Championships

Burnham Sailing Club
Lynn Bew

9 July 2022

On the weekend of 2 and 3 July 2022, Burnham Sailing Club opened their doors and welcomed the RS Tera Eastern Sailors to their club as they kindly hosted the Eastern Championships 2022, sponsored by Allen.

The thrills and spills of day 1 with 15-20 knots throughout the day certainly made it an exciting day on the water. The sailors relished the opportunity to get out onto the water with 4 races for both the Sport and Pro fleet. In the Sport fleet, Tristan Harding took 4 straight wins on Saturday putting him in first place after the first day of racing. The battle was on for 2nd and 3rd place between Luke Markey and Florence Osborne who rallied hard in every race leaving Florence in 2nd and Luke in 3rd but with only one point between them there was plenty to play for. The Pro fleet was dominated with a clear set of firsts for Charlotte White but not from the want of trying by Jack Bew who was nipping on her heels in every race but unfortunately had to settle with a full set of 2nd places. A special mention goes to the smallest sailors Harry Bew and Amy Bullen for getting out there and giving it their all against the elements and still smiling at the end of the day.

Day two brought sunshine and light winds 6-8 knots. The day started with a short AP but once the racing started the day went smoothly with 4 back-to-back races for both fleets. The Sport fleet was, once again, dominated by Tristan Harding with four 1st places, the lighter winds gave the smaller sailors an opportunity to challenge the fleet with Monty Mawditt coming 2nd in every race, followed closely behind by Luke Markey. The Pro fleet was once again a showdown between Charlotte White and Jack Bew, it was an impressive set of races between them both, neither of them willing to give up a point. Race 1 with Jack leading the race, Charlotte managed to squeeze by to win by a boat length, Race 2 Jack managed to forge a reasonable lead to come 1st. In the third race Charlotte was determined to not allow him another win and fought him for the entire race to finish 1st, In the last race of the day Jack managed once again to get out in front and hold on to get another 1st in the last race, this was a masterclass in match racing.

The RS Tera Sports fleet was won by Tristan Harding with 6 points, 2nd went to Luke Markey and Florence Osborne finished in 3rd place. In the Pro fleet the clear winner was Charlotte White with 6 points but closely followed by Jack Bew in 2nd place with 10 points and local sailor Amelia Kilgour took 3rd place. A special Endeavor prize was awarded to Monty Mawditt.
